Interested in becoming a member? S4OM has five classes of membership: Professional, Associate, Student, Supporting and Organizational.
Professional Members
Professional Members are practicing massage therapists who have a working knowledge of cancer, its effects on the body and how current medical treatments can affect the patient. Based on that knowledge, they modify standard massage practice to safely mitigate symptoms, improve mood and restore energy.Each professional member attests that he or she:
1. Has satisfactorily completed a massage therapy training program of 500 hours or more. (Click here for two alternatives.)
2. Is appropriately licensed as required by state and local laws.
3. Maintains appropriate professional liability insurance.
4. Has actively practiced massage therapy for at least one year.
5. Has satisfactorily completed an S4OM recognized postgraduate training program of 24 hours or more. (Click here for an alternative.) (For a list of recognized instructors, click here.)
6. Has satisfactorily documented clinical thinking in adapting massage to the needs of four individual clients. (Click here for two ways to meet this requirement.)
7. Adheres to the S4OM Standards of Practice.
8. Accurately maintains his or her record in the S4OM Therapist Locator Service, including total cumulative oncology massage hours, updating it not less than annually.
9. Maintains access to an email account for both Society and massage client use.
Professional members maintain private or group practices and/or practice in hospitals, clinics, hospices and other healthcare settings around the world.

Associate Members
Associate Members are working toward Professional Membership. They have met all requirements for full Professional Membership except practicing for one year and/or completing a hands-on oncology massage component and/or maintaining their record in the S4OM Therapist Locator Service.Benefits of Associate Membership include:

- Access to the S4OM newsletter, packed with interesting and helpful ideas.

Student Members
Student Members are currently in massage school or have graduated but not yet completed a S4OM recognized oncology massage training program.Benefits of Student Membership include:

After you complete massage school you will need to take a S4OM recognized oncology massage training program, complete a full year in practice and then apply for Associate or Profession status.Student Member dues are $36/year.

Supporting Members
Supporting Members are a diverse group who share the goal of supporting and promoting oncology massage. This includes physicians, nurses, retired massage therapists, cancer patients, their families and caregivers, and many others.

Organizational Members
Organizational Members include hospitals, schools, clinics, medical practices, spas, athletic clubs, professional associations, foundations and other institutions concerned with the wellbeing of cancer patients.
Organizational Membership dues are $120/year.
