I believe bodywork is pretty much the best thing ever. And for much of my life, I’ve seen massage therapists as superheroes – because the ability to take someone’s pain away is a super power, no doubt about it. After my own life got derailed by health issues (now resolved, happily!), I entered massage school in early 2015 with the hope of acquiring some super powers of my own. I’m now trained in Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release, Shiatsu, and Neuromuscular Therapy, along with a thorough grounding in Anatomy and Physiology, Pathology, and Neurology. The work I do uses elements from all these modalities and areas of knowledge to relieve my clients’ pain and bring them into greater harmony with their own bodies. In 2017 I began studying Oncology Massage (bodywork specially geared to the needs of cancer patients) and took a series of workshops in Myofascial Release with John F. Barnes, who created the modality. I’m fascinated by the potential medical applications of massage and bodywork, which can help with an astonishing range of conditions, from fibromyalgia to herniated discs, carpal tunnel syndrome to endometriosis, sciatica, TMJ disorder, depression/anxiety, injury rehabilitation, and all kinds of chronic pain, to name just a few. But also? There’s nothing like a good massage to relax you and make you love being in your body. And since that’s where you live, you might as well enjoy it.
