Catherine Ryan RMT, clinician, educator and author, teaches and presents at conferences internationally on the topics of postsurgical massage therapy, scar tissue management and myofascial pain and dysfunction, which also constitute her clinical practice focus. She is the co-author of Traumatic Scar Tissue Management – Massage Therapy Principles, Practice and Protocols (Jessica Kingsley 2016) and a chapter contributor in, Fascia, function, and medical applications (CRC Press 2025), and Oncology Massage: An integrative approach to cancer care for manual therapists (Jessica Kingsley 2021).

Course Description:

This presentation will explore the relationship between Fascia, Scars/Fibrosis and Lymphstasis and provide an overview of the evidenced informed, massage and manual therapy approaches for the tempering/prevention of fibrosis and facilitating productive changes in mature pathophysiological scar tissue.

 

Course Outcome:

Understand the relationship between fascia, fibrosis/scar tissue and lymphstasis for the purpose of improving patient outcomes.
