Dr. Cynthia Price, Director of the Center for Mindful Body Awareness. A massage therapist in private practice for 20 years, she went on to get her PhD and became a Research Professor at the University of Washington. Her research and teaching is focused on an approach she developed called Mindful Awareness in Body-oriented Therapy (MABT), a touch-based approach to enhance body/interoceptive awareness for emotion regulation among clients with mental and physical health conditions. Cynthia is committed to improving access and equitable integrative health services, reflected in her research and projects in community health facilities.

Presence in the Body: The role of Interoceptive Awareness for Health and Wellbeing

 

Course Description:

This presentation will provide an overview of interoceptive awareness and introduce the evidenced-based approach Mindful Awareness in Body-oriented Therapy (MABT), a touch-based intervention designed to teach fundamental skills of sensory awareness so that clients can have more tools for self-awareness and nervous system regulation. In addition to a brief review of research on MABT, this presentation will include an experiential component and implications for cancer care.

Understand what interoceptive awareness is and how to facilitate client interoceptive skill development to enhance nervous system regulation
